| Hello Everyone,
Our son came home for Christmas Exodus. What a great Christmas this is for us! I'm savoring every bit of it, because I know he will probably not be able to come home again for a long while.
Those of you who've already been through this know what I mean when I say that there are subtle as well as obvious changes in people who've been through basic training.
When I hugged him hello, I realized how strong he's become. He's tall and thin anyway, and after more than nine weeks of BCT, he's all muscle and hard as a board.
Our son has always been a quiet, reflective type but he's really talkative since coming home. He's got lots of stories about the other soldiers he's met, the drill sergeants, and life at the Fort. His language is rather salty and he has to remind himself that he's back in civilization. :)
I woke him the morning after he got home to explain some details about the day's schedule, and he sat straight up in bed--looking around for a drill sergeant. He couldn't get back to sleep after that so he got up to exercise and do his laundry!
How many 18-year-old guys do that?
Even with the rugged training he's been through and the drills constantly in his face, he's still confident that he made the right decision to become a soldier.
I'm going to enjoy his presence and try not to think about his leaving again.
God bless and keep all our soldiers and their families.

| Hello again Nicole, For info on what can or can not be sent to your husband, go to the Ft. Knox web page, www.knox.army.mil/. Scroll down the left side and click on "newcomer info" then click on "parents mailing information," this will tell you all you need to know about mailing things to your husband. The truth is that in basic training, the recruits can only get letters, pictures, and newspaper or magazine articles. Anything else is considered contraband. Packages will be inspected and the contents will likely be confiscated. I know this is very restrictive, but be patient. If he needs something, he should be able to purchase it at the base PX. When he's done with basic training the restrictions ease off somewhat. |

| Hello Nicole, You will get an address as soon as your husband ships "downrange" at Ft. Knox. When that will happen depends on how long he has to stay in "reception," the term for in-processing. My son had to remain in reception at Ft. Knox for three weeks while waiting for enough recruits to fill a troop in his MOS.
After he ships, your husband should be able to call you to give you an exact address. Use the exact address your husband gives you, regardless of information you get from Fr. Knox. It is important for you to help him follow the specific orders that his drill sergeants give him. |
