General
I am an Army dependent born 20 years ago at Landstuhl Army Medical Center over 20 years ago. How do I obtain a copy of my birth certificate?
[8/23/2006]

Contact the “Passport Vital Records Office” at 202-955-0307, or visit their Web site at www.travel.state.gov.

I have just seen on the internet/news a report of a casualty that involved my son/daughter’s unit. How do I find out if my child is okay?
[8/23/2006]

Please, contact the Rear Detachment Commander for your Soldier’s unit. If you do not have the Rear Detachment Commander’s contact information you can call the appropriate Military Installation Army Community Service, give them your Soldier’s unit address and they should be able to give you the unit telephone number for that Rear Detachment.

My uncle is deceased but served in the military. I would like to provide information to his children about his military service since it was nearly 30 years ago that he served. How can I obtain information about his military service?

I would like to make a donation to an organization that helps military families. What are some organizations I can contact?
[8/23/2006]

You can go to www.americasupportsyou.mil and select “Make a difference.” Whether you want to send a care package to a Soldier, donate airline miles to help reunite returning military men and women with their families, support scholarship funds or send support to wounded servicemembers, on this page you will find over 150 non-profit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families.

I am trying to find a family member who is serving in the Army. How can you help? I do not know the location where the Soldier is serving.
[8/23/2006]

Due to the Privacy and Security Act of 2001, the Army is no longer a locator service. The Army Well-Being Liaison Office can attempt to e-mail the Soldier as long as the Soldier’s full name is given (first, middle, last). Our office cannot confirm receipt or response of an e-mail to a Soldier, but we can assure you that an e-mail attempt will be made to the Soldier the same day as the request is made. Contact the Army Well-Being Liaison Office at 1-800-833-6622 for further assistance.

I have a family emergency and need to get in contact with my son. How do I get in contact with him?
[8/23/2006]

The Rear Detachment Commander is the single best official connection to your Soldier's unit while deployed. You also can call the American Red Cross Emergency Contact Number @ 1-877-272-7337 in the case of a severe family emergency.

I want to enlist in the Army. I would like to get more information about the Army before enlisting. Whom do I contact?
[8/23/2006]

Go to http://www.goarmy.com. At this Army recruiting Web site you can obtain your local recruiting station’s address and telephone number, send the recruiters an e-mail, or engage in an on-line chat with a recruiter.

I am a Veteran and I want to know how I can get help to go back to school to further my education.
[8/23/2006]

In recognition of their service, American veterans are entitled to educational assistance through the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) Montgomery GI Bill. You will need to contact the VA for further information and assistance at 1-800-827-1000, or you can visit their Web site at www.va.gov.

My son is in the Army and I have his unit address, but I don’t have his APO. Where can I find this information?
[8/23/2006]

You can contact the Military Postal Service Agency for further assistance at 1-800-810-6098; they only provide APO/FPO zip codes. The Military Postal Service Agency is not a locator service.

Can I find an online resource that shows current and historical active duty military pay tables?
[8/23/2006]

The information you seek is available online at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service's Web site at http://www.dod.mil/dfas/.

National Guard and Reserve - Dental Care
I’m a National Guard & Reserve sponsor and am enrolled in the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP). I’m about to be activated. Do I need to disenroll from the TDP since I’ll be eligible for active duty dental benefits?
[11/27/2006]

No, National Guard & Reserve sponsors who are enrolled in the TDP and who will be activated for 31 days or more are automatically disenrolled from the TDP. They will be automatically re-enrolled upon deactivation.
I’m about to deploy and have enrolled my family in TRICARE medical. Isn’t dental included in the medical coverage?
[11/27/2006]

No, TRICARE medical and dental are two different programs. You must enroll in each separately.
What type of dental coverage is available for my family members once I’m activated?
[11/27/2006]

Family members of National Guard & Reserve sponsors are eligible for the TDP whether the sponsor is activated or not. The TDP provides a comprehensive dental benefit that is comparable to civilian dental insurance plans.
Can my family enroll themselves in the TDP?
[11/27/2006]

The sponsor must enroll family members unless he/she has signed a Power of Attorney (POA) allowing family members to enter into contracts. The POA must be provided with the enrollment form.
When is TDP dental coverage effective?
[11/27/2006]

If the enrollment form and first month’s premium are received by the 20th of the month, coverage begins the first of the following month.
My family is already enrolled in the TDP. Are there any changes once I’m activated?
[11/27/2006]

Yes. If you are activated for 31 days or more, your family’s monthly premiums will be reduced since the Department of Defense pays 60% of monthly premiums for active duty family members. National Guard & Reserve family members whose sponsors are activated for 31 days or more are considered active duty family members, and therefore receive the reduced premium rate.

Premiums for active duty family members are paid via military allotment from the sponsor’s pay and will be reflected on the Leave and Earnings Statement (LES).

Upon deactivation, your family will revert to the National Guard & Reserve family member premium rate (no government participation).
My family wasn’t enrolled in the TDP prior to my activation. Are there any time limitations regarding enrollment?
[11/27/2006]

You can enroll your family at any time. There is, however, a 12-month commitment for your family to remain enrolled in the TDP. Premiums will be adjusted to the National Guard & Reserve family member rate (no government participation) upon deactivation. Note that if the sponsor enrolls the family within 30 days of activation in support of certain contingency operations, the family will be automatically disenrolled from the TDP upon deactivation and the 12-month commitment will be waived.
Where can I get more information on the TDP (enrollment, monthly premiums, cost-shares, benefits, POA, etc.)?
[11/27/2006]

Visit the TDP web site @ www.TRICAREdentalprogram.com or call the TDP contractor, United Concordia Companies, Inc., at 800-866-8499
